This recent collection of sculptures of children came into being as a result of specific events in my life in the Spring of 2019. I underwent a complicated back surgery and all did not go well. My painful experience pre and post surgery affected me greatly. Suddenly everything in my life became very uncertain.

The simplest way to explain this is that I felt like a powerless, vulnerable, scared child. I had minimal ability to understand or control my situation and had many concerns over what kind of future I would have.

As I worked through my own recovery I started to think about the different kinds of every day circumstances and situations faced in childhood which were potentially dangerous, fearful, or traumatic, and which could result in a variety of possible outcomes for the child. Creating these situations in 3D sculptures helped me to deal with my own vulnerability.

I realized that I needed a lot of luck, courage, determination, and resourcefulness to regain my equilibrium just as these children might have had to do. Their situations were finally realized in this collection of 14 sculptures I have made called UNCERTAIN OUTCOMES.
