Artist Statement

I am a figurative sculptor living in Scarsdale, New York. After an MBA and a successful 40 year career in Investment Management and Marketing, I began a second career as a sculptor in sheet bronze, clay, and wax cast into bronze. Recently I have been working with 3 D printing to create my sculptures. I am fortunate to now have the time for artistic creation - a path identified but not taken in my youth.

The miraculous construction of the human figure is endlessly fascinating to me. Some of my sculptures are representational whether classical or contemporary. Recent representational work has focused on children’s situations where there are uncertain outcomes.

In my abstract work I use precise shapes that come from a Futurist or Cubist perspective. Colors in these pieces are similar to those found in oil paintings of the 1920’s, 1930’s and 40’s. In each of these sculptures I aim to capture a person’s specific decisive moment in time and space,

I am indebted to my genius teachers Janice Mauro and Robert Perucci, who have been my technical and inspirational mentors, and to the 3D modelers and technicians, the mold makers and foundries who help to bring my work to fruition.

Marilyn Breslow holds an BA from Barnard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

A Note on 3D Printing

My most recent sculptures have been 3D printed. This method required that the original sculpture made out of wax was laser scanned to capture its physical 3D information in computer code. This computer code was then transferred to a special 3D modeling program. Once final changes were made in the software model, this code was transmitted to a 3D printer which slowly, layer by layer, recreated the sculpture in a material of choice.

The two very important variables that can be controlled with this process:

  1. The client can have their sculpture made (printed) in any size on request
  2. The sculptures can be printed in a wide variety of materials and colors.

All of the sculptures shown in this portfolio are printed in black, white or clear resin. However they could be printed in aluminum, steel, bronze, gold, platinum or resin in clear or most colors. Sculptures printed in metal can have very long outdoor exposure and can of course be huge.
